Shailaj Bdr. Singh has been the Head of Sales and Marketing Department of Vijay Motors, the sole distributor of Subaru vehicles, for almost two and a half years. Before joining Vijay Motors, he ran a fitness nutrition business. He says that it was his passion and interest for automobiles that led him to his current career.
B360 caught up with Singh post-NADA Auto Show 2018 to know the response Subaru received and its plans for the upcoming Dashain and Tihar festivals.
What was the response to Subaru at the NADA Auto Show 2018?
NADA Auto Show is a huge platform for automobile companies in Nepal to showcase their older and/or new products. A huge number of audiences come to the Auto Show to know about the vehicles and vehicle companies, both new and the existing ones.
The visitors of Auto Show 2018 were attracted to Subaru’s stall mainly because of our vehicles’ technology and safety features. Few years back, many people didn’t know about Subaru and our products but now it is a well-known brand in the Nepali market, mainly because of people’s awareness about brands and through our promotions and marketing strategies. So, visitors were there at Subaru’s booth for the technology and the Symmetrical All Wheel Drive (AWD). Subaru is the only company in the world that has SAWD as a standard feature in many of its cars. Many of the visitors who go off-roading and on adventures were there at our booth to check out our products.
Did Vijay Motors launch new models of Subaru this year?
Currently we have the Subaru Outback. The current model has 3.6-litre Subaru Boxer 6-cylinder engine but we can also import the 2.5-litre variant. So this year at NADA Auto Show, we displayed Subaru Outback.
Subaru Outback is a pure off-roader with good ground clearance. Though it has a 3.6-litre engine but because of the Boxer engine, it is the most fuel efficient SUV. It also has SAWD like most of Subaru’s other models instead of 4WD. It’s not that people only drive around the city all the time; when they go to the outskirts or off-road, the Outback is a great vehicle for such activities as well.
What is the price range of the Subaru vehicles that are currently available in the market?
The price of Subaru Forester is Rs. 1.2 crores, XV is Rs. 1.05 crores, and Outback is Rs. 1.5 crores. I think the price of Subaru SUVs compared to other SUVs in the market is at a reasonable rate.
